This engaging workshop is designed for School Psychologists, Behavior Specialists, SLPs, OTs, and PTs who are looking for novel and effective approaches for helping children ages 3–12 learn how to express and regulate feelings, understand the emotions of others, establish and maintain healthy social relationships, and promote academic and social success.

Shellie Bader

Shellie Bader, M.A., CCC-SLP, Regional Director for EBS Healthcare, manages facility partnerships and oversees clinical services to assure the highest quality services for children in schools and the community. She has expertise and proven success in training and supervision, as well as building cohesive, goal-oriented teams and in implementing outcomes-based, innovative programs. Prior to joining EBS, Ms. Bader directed and ran school, private clinic, and early intervention programs in Los Angeles and nationwide, improving service and student success in both the public and private sectors. An active volunteer for CSHA, Shellie is currently serving on the Board of Directors and is the Chair of the Professional Practices Committee.

Ellen Dodge

Ellen Pritchard Dodge, M.Ed, CCC-SLP, is a recognized leader in character education and communication skills in the classroom. Ellen has published numerous books and articles in the area of social emotional learning. Ellen’s interactive workshop style and effective communication strategies and passion for raising children’s social and emotional intelligence makes her a sought-after speaker. Ellen has extensively taught in public schools in Northern California where her communication curriculum won a National Character Education award. With Dr. William Pollack, author of Real Boys, Ellen collaborated to create classrooms that are academically and socially engaging for boys through Supporting Our Sons. Since 2008, she has been the educational director and curriculum author for Kimochis®. In 2013, Ellen served on Parenting Magazine’s Editorial Advisory Board. In 2017, Ellen launched www.TheParentingPartner.org to help schools and homes partner to raise emotionally strong and resilient kids. The California Speech Language and Hearing Association bestowed Ellen with Honors of the Association, the highest honor as a significant contributor to the field of Speech and Language Pathology and to the CSHA organization. Ellen is the mother of three daughters and lives in Northern California but treasures her midwestern roots and large extended family in Chicago.

Learner Objectives

Following instruction, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain how to use Kimochis® social-emotional tools and curriculum to plan individual, small group, and in-classroom lessons that will foster social and academic success.

  2. Illustrate the Feeling-Behavior Link, articulating why this is vital for social, emotional, and academic success.

  3. Demonstrate how to use Kimochis® feelings pillows to help clients explore, articulate, and manage feelings that accompany life’s challenging circumstances and increase overall emotional vocabulary and communication proficiency.

  4. Describe how the Kimochis® characters can promote interesting and fun learning in one-on-one, small groups, or larger educational settings to address challenging behavior.

  5. Articulate how the Kimochis® Keys to Communication can be used as a therapeutic intervention tool to promote positive behavior that leads to improved academic functioning and successful relationships.
